Happy Birthday to me...It's my birthday month...Yay for me or is it ouch!

In my early 20's, I was hiking, biking and just being active all the time.  Oh the memoirs of all the fun activities that I was doing....I remember hiking 50 miles in the backcountry of Yellowstone park.  I remember that I wanted a backpacking tent instead of a dining room table for our wedding gift.

Now I am 62 and 40 years later, my goal is to walk 50 miles to Salt Lake.  It feels a little bit different being 62.  I have a little bit more weight on this body and I have osteoarthritis in my knees which makes me say "ouch" as I walk.

On this day I walked from West Hill Field Rd to Layton Parkway....I'm almost to Kaysville...this is so doable.

There is a common thread as I walk in my 20's and as I walk in my 60's, that this world is  BEAUTIFUL and WONDROUS .  No matter what my age, I pledge that I will approach each moment with fresh eyes and an open heart.  I'm not defined by my past pain or my fears for the future, I draw from the wellspring of NOW, this is my prayer.  Namaste

Walking on St Patrick's Day.....looking for that pot of gold....

I'm walking on St Patrick's Day, hoping to find that Leprechaun with his pot of gold.

Walked from Antelope Dr to West Hill Field Rd, a few steps closer to Salt Lake

Did not find that Leprechaun and his pot of gold, but lucky for me I found that Irish man.

 Love you John McFadden.

Back in the Saddle.....

I'm back in the saddle...after being throw off with colder weather, ear sinus problems and just not finding the time I got back on with my walk.

It was nice to feel the air and the sun and placing one foot in front of the other.....

Even though this tree is still wearing it's winter coat...I know it won't be long that it will be showing it's green leaves.... I love nature with all of it's beautiful seasons.

Here is my knight in shinning armor....Thank you John for being there for me, Love you!

Started at Center Street in Clearfield and ended after Antelope Drive in Layton.

I'm hooked up.... What is this fit bit?

I'm now hooked up to a fit bit!!!!  I'm not to sure what it is.  My first day wearing it my app on my phone said that I was only active for 8 minutes during the whole day.  What!!!! that means that I am slowly wasting away.  No wonder I feel like a slug, a sloth, a major couch potato....THIS IS NOT GOOD.

BUT NEVER FEAR I AM NOW HOOKED UP AND I NOW CAN MONITOR MY ACTIVITY DURING THE DAY.  I still have a major learning curve on how it all works.  I'll keep you posted on what it all means.

Another Hop, Skip and a Jump to Salt Lake....

Zoe one of my biggest followers. . . She wants to come with me to Salt Lake.

We started at Steed's pond, Before the walk Zoe wanted to do a Rocky pose just like I did when I was at the pond last time.  So cute!  Zoe is only 7 and so willing for an adventure with her grandma.

I can not tell you the love that I have for this cute girl.
Every step was just an exciting time.
Love being her Grandma!

When we made it to the end of this leg of our walk it was dark and it took a while for Megan (Zoe's Mom) to find us. Megan was more upset not being able to find us then we were.
Zoe and I felt like this walk was one big adventure.

Zoe wants to be a follower!

This walk is more then just walking....Now I am "BIRDING"

My last post I mentions about finding a small hawk with it's prey in it's talons.

I didn't realize that my brother-in-law, Jack Greene, who is an Ornithologist would be so excited about my sighting.  He advised me that if something this exciting happens again I am to take pictures and submit it to the National Audubon Society.

The bird was an Sharp-shinned Hawk. These pictures are from the internet, but this is what we saw!!!

This small bird hunts by perching inside foliage and waiting for small birds to approach, or by approaching stealthily through dense cover, then bursting forth with incredibly swift flight to capture prey in its talons.  Sometimes hunts by flying rapidly among the trees or low over the ground, threading its way around obstacles, taking prey by sudden surprise.

Who would have know so much excitement was going on, on the trail going towards Salt Lake City!

I Have Followers!

I shared with my wonderful co-workers my crazy idea of walking to Salt Lake and they want to come too...So I'm calling them my FOLLOWERS ;-)

Here we are starting at Maverick at 1800 North, Clinton.  Adriana, Me, Verlynn,
Oh what fun!!!!!

This is hard to see but Adriana has a big stick and she is showing us her skills of protection.
 We're not afraid.

On the trail we saw bird feathers all over.  We wondered, "what's up with this?"  Later we saw a live Hawk with a dead bird in it's talons. Shamans will find meaning with what they find in nature. So I asked Verlynn what does this mean to you, her reply "Survival of the fittest." My reply was, "Carpe diem, seize the day." Adriana was too upset to find meaning, all she saw was the dead bird with it's broken neck... Ok, I agree it was upsetting.

What BRAVE followers they are. Thank you friends for sharing this with me.

Made it to Steed's Pond in Clearfield. This is my Rocky pose. I feel like I can "walk on water."
What a splendid day for a walk!

One Step at a time....

I am going to walk to Salt Lake City. O.K. maybe leap frog to Salt Lake City...What does that mean? It means that I will start my walk toward Salt Lake and then when I get tired I will call John and he will come and pick me up and then the next time I will drive my car to the last place that I had John pick me up and start walking towards Salt Lake. By doing my walk this way, it doesn't matter how long it will take me, it's my way of getting moving. If it make me smile, why not :-)

January 17, 2015 Saturday - My first day out the door. Looking good! well maybe not that good, but I am out the door!

This is the start of the trail head, Denver Rio Grand Western rail trail, It goes all the way to Farmington Station and then the trail turns into Legacy Parkway Trail. One step at a time, I CAN DO THIS!!!!

I made it from my house to 1800 North 1000 West. Maybe not a lot of steps but it is a start. It has been fun to be with my thoughts and my music. This is doable.
